Earlier today, Mrs. Gill's Child Development Class had the pleasure of hosting Ashley Wianecki as a guest speaker. Ashley is the Director at Little Sprouts in Redgranite and she talked about the background of the daycare, state requirements, layouts, and menus to help our high school students be prepared and gain ideas for their next project of designing their own daycare. Thank you so much for presenting Ashley!

Due to technical difficulties, the Wautoma Area School District will use the permission slips you provided to complete the necessary paperwork for Nordic Mountain for your child to be able to participate in the tubing field trip. If you do not want the district to complete the paperwork (i.e. waiver), using the permission slip, please contact the school for additional directions by Friday, January 26. Earlier this month, “Mr. Dan” officially retired from the Wautoma Area School District. We want to thank Dan for his service to the students and staff as the head custodian at Wautoma High School for the past 25 years! Congratulations!

The Riverview Character Education Committee presents January’s Community Character Award to 4-H for Determination! Determination is a big piece of being a part of 4-H. Students can choose to be a part of 4-H and get to experience many things that allow them to show determination. They can show determination through hands-on activities like learning archery, baking, painting and so much more! Learning a new activity or skill can be frustrating, 4-H students practice determination while they find new strategies. Determination also means listening to the directions of their leaders so they can learn each step and not give up until they accomplish their goal. They can also work toward leadership roles, for example, some participants take care of animals and show them at the fair. There are many challenges that come with caring for animals, feeding them, and training them, so 4-H students have to rely on determination to overcome those challenges, too. These reasons and more are why we believe that 4-H is very deserving of being recognized for the character trait of Determination.

On January 9th, America celebrated Law Enforcement Appreciation Day! Due to school closings, Redgranite third grade students celebrated with several officers on Friday, January 19. In order to show our appreciation for the job that they do, students invited Waushara County officers into their classroom to visit. The children wrote letters of appreciation to Waushara County officers. The students were able to share their letters and they were able to ask the officers some questions. We would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the officers who were able to attend. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to visit us! We support you! Today marks the last day of 80 Trays Around The World Event. Today, students will get a chance to try North African Gumbo! The dish combines ingredients and culinary practices of several cultures, including African, French, Spanish, and Native American with a combination of spice and vegetables. MENU CHANGE for breakfast tomorrow! Due to school closure from inclement weather last week Friday we were not able to serve our farm fresh eggs that were planned. We will now serve the farm fresh scrambled eggs tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 18, at breakfast time at each of our schools! Make sure your students line up for breakfast! A reminder that breakfast is free to all WASD regardless of income! Today, Jan. 16 we are serving German Bavarian Meatball Sandwich on the lunch menu as part of our #AroundtheWorldin80trays event this week! Frikkadel (meatball) is a cuisine of Germany. It is a rounded, flat button meatball often linked to the German version of meatballs. Bavarian cuisine is a style of cooking from Bavaria, Germany. Bavarian cuisine includes many meat and Knödel dishes, and often uses flour. Fun Fact: Germany has many foods named after places. Have you ever wondered why a hamburger doesn’t have any actual ham in it? That’s because it’s named after the city of Hamburg. And it’s not the only food that is named after a place either. Frankfurter hot dogs originated from Frankfurt and Battenberg cake comes from the town of Battenberg. Bavarian is related to the southern German state of Bavaria. #WISchoolMealsRock

Wautoma High School is presenting a FAFSA Night on tomorrow evening, January 15th, at 6:00 PM in the Wautoma High School Library for all 2023-2024 Seniors. The event will include a presentation about the FAFSA (Free Application of Federal Student Aid). Following the presentation, students/families will be able to complete the FAFSA that night with the help of volunteers and FVTC FAFSA expert Mike Gawel. The FAFSA is required for all students hoping to receive financial assistance if they plan to attend a technical school or college after graduation. Please see below for the information on what to bring with you to complete the FAFSA. - 2022 Federal Tax Return and W2s - 2022 Untaxed Income Records, such as child support or veterans's non-education benefits - Information on savings, investments, business assets and farm assets (if applicable) - Driver’s License (if you have one) - Cell phone (if you have one) Social Security Number - Alien Registration Card or Permanent Resident Card (if you are not a U.S. citizen) - Date of birth for parents - Month and year of parents’ marriage, divorce, or separation It is helpful if your FSA ID is created prior to the event, but is not required.
