The A+ After School Program is celebrating Afterschool Professionals
Appreciation Week April 19-23, 2021, along with the National AfterSchool
Association, to recognize, appreciate and advocate for those who work with young people during out-of-school hours.
The Riverview A+ After School Program 3rd Graders worked in pairs to build sections of a bridge out of toothpicks and gumdrops. Then they connected their sections to create one bridge and test it's strength. The bridge successfully held 400 pennies for 1 minute!
Redgranite Third Graders participated in a virtual field trip on Thursday. The students have been learning a lot about motion and they participated in a virtual class called Motion Commotion with Scientist K from North Carolina. The students enjoyed learning additional information about motion and doing experiments with the scientist. The children worked with tops, learned about centrifugal force, and made magnetic slime.
WHS students in Basic Interior Design, a dual credit course with Fox Valley Technical College, spent some time before spring break making mini barn boards.
WHS students in Basic Interior Design, a dual credit course with Fox Valley Technical College, create a string art project during the unit on Elements of Design.
The 5th graders at Redgranite Elementary have been looking into different ways to separate mixtures. Last week they were given a mixture of four materials (gravel, powder, salt, and a mystery material) and tasked with separating all four of the materials. They were given a tub with everything they needed to separate the materials and that was it.
The kids needed to use the knowledge from previous investigations to write a plan for how they were going to accomplish their task and then test it. It took a few tries but both groups got all of the materials back into their own cups! It was awesome watching them problem solve along the way!
WHS students enrolled in the dual credit Infant and Toddler course were challenged to make puppets from wooden spoons for a favorite children's book. Virtual students were challenged to create puppets from what they had at home and with what was readily available to them.

A HUGE shout out to Megan Kelly and Hayley Moore who took 2nd place in the team event, Business Plan, and advanced to National competition this summer.
Wautoma High School's Future Business Leaders of America participated in a Virtual State Conference yesterday. These State Qualifiers participated in online state tests and uploaded materials prior to today's competition, competed (AND WON!!!) a room decorating contest, attended a virtual leadership conference, and had lunch of chicken tenders and pizza and various individually wrapped treats.
1st graders in the Riverview A+ After School Program are learning about dinosaurs in their enrichment club. Here they are being paleontologist and discovering dinosaur bones.
First graders at Redgranite Elementary learned about how animals become "invisible" to protect themselves from predators. Some animals use camouflage, some become flat to blend in with their surroundings, and other animals turn themselves into a different shape! The students created a secret message and hid them around the classroom.
Can you find the messages?

Mark your calendars for the 2021 SCC Art Show!
Third grade students at Redgranite had fun learning about Patterns of Motion with tops. Students designed their own tops and wrote their own focus questions to answer. Some children wanted to know, "What is the best design for a top that spins a long time?" or "Does it make a difference if you use the larger or smaller discs to design a top?" Students tested their tops, drew a diagram and wrote about their observations. The students also had fun using a Doodle Top.
During Redgranite Elementary's 4K unit on Spring we placed chicken eggs in our incubator.
Over the weekend our chicks started hatching. This is just in time for us to learn about them in our next unit, Farm and Ranch.
The entire Wautoma High School Forensics team will advance from the Level 2 – District Forensics Competition to the State Competition beginning April 9. Congratulations go to Madylyn Woyak, Poetry; Ava Butt, Public Address; Alyssa Szymanski, Dakota McNeal, and Kaydance Blader on their Group Interpretation; and Owen Mulvey, Moment in History.
