Last school year, Cadence Lederhaus was in third grade at Redgranite Elementary School. In March, her classroom teacher was teaching the class about community service projects and the class was excited to help Mrs. Petersen kick off the 10th Annual Wautoma Area School District Pajama Drive in April. However, the classes' hopes and dreams to help others were crushed when school was cancelled. Well, that's at least what they thought. Little did the class know, their classmate Cadence was not going to let a school closure stop her from helping others. During the pandemic, Cadence began reaching out to family and friends asking if anyone was interested in donating to the cause. Family and friends started sending donations her way. Cadence was ecstatic, but she didn't stop there. Next, she decided to reach out to the recording artists known as Judah and the Lion and the band was honored to make a donation to the cause. The band finds people that are doing charitable things for the community and they pay it forward. They sent her pajamas and a monetary donation. In addition, Judah and the Lion made Cadence an honorary member of their High Five Squad. Cadence ended up collecting 74 sets of pajamas on her own! At the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year Cadence and her third grade teacher were reunited and they were able to tally up the total number of pajamas donated to the cause during the pandemic. A total of 151 sets of pajamas ended up being collected during the 10th Annual Pajama Drive. These pajamas will be donated to the Waushara County Christmas Project. Mrs. Petersen is proud of Cadence's accomplishments. And both are excited and proud to know that children in their community will get to enjoy the simple pleasure of a new set of pajamas this Christmas.
